One of the main causes of the Spanish-American war was the sinking of the battleship Maine in Harvana Harbor on Feb. 15, 1898. Another cause would be yellow journalism rallying America against Spain. The end of the was was signafied by the signing of the treaty of paris on Dec. 10, 1898. The outcome of the war was that Spain lost control of Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Phillipines, Guam and other islands.
