12/8
This is the last day before check in. We have viewed and discussed the following films:
Objectives:
- The students will reflect on the films they have seen and discussed in class
- The students will produce evidence of thoughtful reflection in the form of journal entries.
To Do:
- Produce a journal for each film we have viewed and discussed in class
- Amreeka
- Sling Blade
- Falling Sky
- Midnight Clear [Do not do a journal for Midnight Clear. We will compare two "Christmas" movies]
- Each journal must contain the following:
- At least 300 words (no extra wordiness or repeating yourself allowed)
- A statement of the main themes (or issues) addressed by the movie (e.g. overcoming family problems, addiction, etc.). Also, do not just state the problem; elaborate on it.
- Address the core conflict confronting the protagonist (main character) and a description of how that character eventually overcame their problem. For example, in Falling Sky the teenage girl must care for her alcoholic mother while at the same time trying to have a present and a future of her own. What is the central conflict represented in this and the other films we viewed?
- A description of the antagonists in the film (be they circumunstances or people) and how they challenged the main character.
- Celeste (and everyone else) you are correct; it is up to YOU to add your personal experience and opinions as you construct your answers.
