  1. Read 3 short stories from 3 different genres. Use the literary and short story anthologies in the classroom. Make sure you read 3 different types of stories, like a horror, a realistic story and a fantasy, for example.
  2. Complete the annotated Analyzing Fiction Questions. Complete one for each story. Post your responses to the Short Story Response blog.
  3. Complete one each of the graphic organizers (below) for each of your stories. These will be placed in a pool for each student to use one each for making their own story, so it is important that you do an excellent job with each one.
    1. Story Plan
    2. Plot Summary Chart
    3. Conflict Dissection
  4. You will select one each from the pool of completed graphic organizers, but none of them may come from the same story. It will be up to you to craft a story that hangs together and makes sense based on the combination you choose.
  5. The story must honor the intent of the graphic organizers, which is that your story have all of the following: A developed plot with a round protagonist who encounters obstacles in trying to get what s/he wants, faces a crisis and eventually perseveres or not. It has a clear flow and form.
  6. It is at least 1,250 words typed, double spaced, 12 point, regular Times New Roman font.
  7. It gets peer edited and revised according to feedback.
