What is a carcinogen?

A carcinogen is a cancer causing agent in a substance.

How do we know if something is carcinogenic?

It is hard to know something is carcinogenic because in science, you have to run tests. There are too many substances with different levels of carcinogens. Scientists can’t test them on humans and see if they have cancer. Therefore, tests are run on animals and other species to see if it causes cancer.

1 Marijuana is safe because it’s a plant.

1 Marijuana is not safe because it’s a plant. There are many organic substances that can kill you.

2 Marijuana is harmless. Marijuana has 400 chemicals and could cause cancer.

3 Marijuana is addictive. If you use marijuana more than once on a daily bases, it could be addictive.

4 Marijuana is worse than cigarettes. It has tar which produces 50% more than carcinogens in tobacco.

5 Marijuana calms you, addiction can make you mad.

6 Only for real treatment, not just a legal license.

7 More people smoke weed than any other illegal drug.

8 40% of children learning about drugs at young age will not do it.

9 Marijuana use slows the coordination and perception of time. It is not safe to drive high.
