Friendship is one of those things not everyone comes by. Some people can think they have amazing friends but in reality they really are just loners. Like in About a Boy, Marcus thought he had friends, they were these 2 really nerdy guys and they told him he couldn’t be their friend anymore because he was too weird and they were tired of being picked on. He was heartbroken and it was very clean how sad it made him, he goes home later that day and his mom is crying, I’m not totally sure why but I’m almost positive it’s because she’s depressed. When someone’s going through that they need friends, so where was Marcus supposed to turn to. Eventually through a weird happening Will comes into his life.
See Will had kind of a sick mind when it came to meeting women so he went to a ‘single parents alone together’ group session and met this girl he really liked. He made up a child so that he could continue going. He made up so much it was pretty outrageous, people would ask him questions and he would just answer them like his little boy was real but in reality he was just part of some sick story line. Anyways he asks this lady on a date and she and Marcus’ mom were friends so she brought Marcus on the picnic date with them along with her daughter. With time Will and Marcus hang out more and more and eventually Marcus shows up to his door and confronts him about not having a little boy. The deal they had was Marcus wouldn’t tell if Will dated his mom. Now Will wasn’t about to sink to that level so he took them out once and that was it. Marcus’ mom Fiona tried committing suicide and so Will and Marcus started getting a stronger relationship.
Sometimes in life bad things have to happen for good things to come along. This movie showed that perfectly, even though I left parts out the feeling of belonging is in everyone all around the world. No matter how different you are you’ll always want that feeling of meaning something to someone, whether or not its your mother or your father, your sister or your brother, your girlfriend or our boyfriend, or even a stranger on the street. You’ll always want people to notice you, but you want them noticing he good things about you, not the bad.
