What I think this means is that conditionals are actions that depends on a condition.

Like: If my dad buys me a dog, I will name him Sport.

"If my dad buys me a dog" is the condition, and "I will name him Sport", is the action I will take.

Gerunds are verbs that are acting as a noun.

Example: Acting is really fun,

Acting would be the noun, but since its a verb, its a gerund.
