SYSTEM OF A DOWN




System of A Down or SOAD, is an American hard rock band formed in 1994. Lead singer Serj Tankian met guitarist Daron Malakian in 1992, while they both shared the same rehearsal studio in different bands. They formed a jam band called Soil (Serj on vocals/keyboards and Daron on guitar) with Domingo Laranio (drums) and Dave Hakopyan (bass). Around this time, they also met Shavo Odadjian. After about a year, with one supposed jam session recording and one live show, Dave and Domingo left, thinking the band wasn't going anywhere.

The band later broke up and Tankian and Malakian formed a new band "System of a Down," adapting the name from a poem Daron wrote entitled "Victims of the Down". The band released their first album in 1998 Entitled "System of A Down". The album gained several positive reviews, but had a message of rebellion within each song and remains my favorite SOAD album.

In 2001 tha band released their second album "Toxicity" This album had only one big difference with their first album, the amount of popularity this album gave with its singles Chop Suey,Aerials,and Toxicity. This album I feel has a very appealing sound which is why it attracted people to it, rather than the In-Your-Face songs from the first album.

Only 1 year later SOAD released their third album "Steal this Album!" this album did not have as much commercial success as Toxcity but it gave another original sound for the band. It leaned back more toward their first album's sound but tweaked it a little making it more different. It still is a great album and not as bad as there next two albums.

In 2005 SOAD released their fourth and fifth album simultaneously "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" these two albums pretty much abadoned origianlity and gave it a new mainstream shine. The albums did sell very well but I honsetly dont like either of them, thats my opinion though other people might like it.

Nowadays the band is on hiatus and it is unknown whether or not there will be a new album, but really if they did that bad on there last two I'm not sure if I want to hear a new album. But still System of A Down remains one of the most original bands of all time, their first three albums are more than enough for me.
